What's different about MyJob.ie?
There are hundreds of other job search web sites on the internet. Why should you bother using MyJob.ie?
|
How it works
The basicsLike many other job search web sites, MyJob.ie is built around a database containing descriptions of jobs, salaries, and the skills and qualifications required for the job. Candidates search through these jobs looking for ones they like. Companies register with the site and enter vacancies using their web browser.
"Thus far and no more"That's about the limit of employment services as far as most sites go. They pad out their sites with a few documents about how to write a resume, proper interview techniques, add some graphics and links and voila, an employment site. Easy! That's one of the reasons that there are so many employment sites, because they are so easy to build.
"The basics" just isn't good enough for the 21st Century web!If a web site leaves job-seekers to search through lists of jobs without assistance, the site is not going to perform its primary function, which is linking the right employer to the right employee. This is tedious work for job-seekers, who have to wade through piles of inappropriate jobs. It's especially tedious for employers; their vacancies are exposed to many inappropriate candidates and they will receive a huge number of unsuitable CVs. The right person's CV is probably buried halfway down the pile.
MyJob.ie offers much more!MyJob.ie is different. MyJob.ie contains a comprehensive database, storing not only CVs and vacancies, but skills, skill sets, geographical areas, job types, ignore-lists, companies, and company representatives. This comprehensive database means MyJob.ie can offer a whole range of features for you:
Candidates search for vacancies by skill
A candidate doesn't just enter a search string to find the perfect job, he or she enters their complete skill set. The same goes for vacancies - the skill requirements are entered as a table, with each skill associated with a required skill level and amount of required experience. These are matched to the candidate and the matching jobs are presented to the candidate sorted with the best matches first.
This way, the web server can calculate how closely a candidate's skill set matches the skill set required for the job. The best matches are always presented first.
Companies can search for Candidate Profiles
The tables are turned! Now not only do candidates search for vacancies, but companies can search for the best matching candidates! Note: a Company can never see the personal details or CV of a candidate unless they have applied directly to a job. When a company searches for candidates they search based on salary requirements, desired location and a combination of skills required. They are then presented with candidate profiles without names, CV, contact details etc. All they can see is a profile of the skills and experience of the candidate plus work and salary requirements. If they are interested in the candidate they can only express this through Myjob which will alert him/her via email. A Candidates identity is revealed only if they reply to that email. Candidate confidentiality is our utmost concern.
You will probably notice that the pages on myjob.ie load significantly faster than the pages on other websites. No, we haven't turbo-charged your browser, we've just cut back on the graphics.
At MyJob.ie we believe that the web has matured. The web surfer of the third millennium isn't so interested in the flash and dazzle anymore, especially now that most surfers have learned that flash and dazzle takes a long time to load. We believe today's web surfer is looking for content, function, usability, speed, reliability and usefulness. And that's what we deliver.
The internalsHow do we do it?
The software which drives MyJob.ie is the Apache web server, with a plug-in software module to interpret the PHP scripting language. PHP is an embedded OO scripting language similar to Perl. PHP is in turn connected to a MySQL database engine. MySQL is one of the fastest database engines you will find anywhere.
This combination of Apache, PHP and MySQL software is fast becoming one of the de facto internet standards for intelligent website development, according to the latest Netcraft survey.
Our MySQL and Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) hosting is provided by hostireland.com on their Linux based servers, running the Redhat Linux distribution.
