Job description
SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for creating innovative electronic, mechanical, and/or chemical sensor solutions which lead to the development and introduction of new technologies, products and/or processes that support ongoing business objectives.
The Senior R&D Engineer will be a member of the R&D engineering team.
The successful candidate has demonstrated design, development and implementation of sensor technologies into qualified medical devices.
Additionally, the successful candidate needs to work well in a team where the work product reflects high professional standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Utilize electronics, mechanical, and/or chemical sensor technology in product and/or process development projects providing novel opportunities in new products or business development;
2. Electronics research/technology development projects, to include new introduction or troubleshooting;
3. Conducting measurements & experiments, creating engineering designs, developing plans and keeping laboratory notebooks on all projects;
4. Communicating with and functioning as a member of a cross functional team;
5. Participating in requirements, design and peer reviews as they pertain to electronics/electrical hardware design; and
6. Assisting in product/process introduction, production troubleshooting or individual measurement and analysis projects;
7. Confirmed knowledge of analog and digital circuitry components and design, printed circuit board (PCB) layout, EMI/EMC testing techniques, system level design and integration practices;
8. Experience in electronic, mechanical and/or chemical sensors for requirements definition and development; embedded & PC based SW development experience desirable;
9. Proficient with EDA tools such as OrCAD 10.5 for schematic capture, PADS 2005 for PCB layout and CAM350 for PCB DFM analysis.
10. Demonstrated utilization of Design for Six Sigma, Design for Manufacture/Assembly and Design for Test methodologies highly desirable;
11. Understand testing and performance requirements of various sensor modules, to test performance of and troubleshoot issues in new sensors integration. Be able to interact with and provide technical feedback to third party solutions providers;
12. Be able to generate design documentation such as requirements specifications, schematics, PCB artwork, DFMEA, verification test procedures, and test reports under FDA QSR design control practices;
13. Experience with a broad variety of analog and digital sensors including MEMS, portable power/battery technology, wireless communications and product miniaturization;
14. Fundamental understanding of project management techniques such as scheduling, budgeting, and risk mitigation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
Experience: 5-10 years sensor design and test experience.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Medical device design experience.
Skills/Competencies: Analog and digital electronics.
Other Skills: Mechanical and chemical sensor experience.
